Could you expand on which ways chickens undergo the harshest practices? The only unavoidable suffering by chickens is I believe that male poultry and egg-laying chicks still mostly get discarded rather than being able to ensure the sex before development in the egg. Are there other unavoidable sufferings?

As much as I am in favour of better quality of life of animals, what you're saying doesn't quite add up with what I've learnt elsewhere. I thought broilers aren't debeaked due to reaching slaughter age and weight before injurious pecking becomes a serious issue. And typically only done in chickens kept in close confinement, so not a blanket treatment given to all chickens on all farms everywhere?

I asked about unavoidable sufferings, and though my knowledge on farming is limited, I had thought the main unavoidable sufferings was that of discarded male chickens, and wondered if there were more unavoidable sufferings. All the other mistreatment could feasibly be changed. The male chick issue could be resolved (or maybe already has been) by science.
