In case you're interested, I was in Haiti post-earthquake (starting in April 2010, finally leaving for the last time around Summer 2012). I saw lots of communication problems between the NGOs and their beneficiaries. My response was to split from the small NGO I was working with and start a small language school, not to teach Haitians English or French, but to teach the NGO workers how to speak the language of the people they were there to serve. This addressed a few problems: 1. helped poor communication 2. employed a few Creole Language teachers (the Department of Linguistics of the University in PAP closed after the earthquake so I was able to find high quality instructors looking for work), and 3. gave what profits there were to a rural university that provided me some office space to work and organize. If you have questions I'll be happy to answer.

How long do you think it would take to dig a properly sized hole by hand? How long does it take with the machine? I was thinking it could be cathartic to make the whole one's self for a loved one. but maybe not if it would take like 10 hours.
