While some companies have used the term Open Beta to be in line with launching their product to the general gaming populace, it is not the case for our title.

With all due respect, I don't think you understand how massive of a mistake you are making with this assumption.

It does not matter what you call your open beta, or what you think it will be. It will not matter whether you want people to think it's still a "work in progress." When you make your game available to the public, that is an assumed launch. Even if the game improves ten fold when you "release," you will have a death sentence if your open beta impressions are negative. That's just the reality of how consumers are judging games right now. Regardless of developers not wanting their game judged during open beta is irrelevant, because that's when the consumers and media begin judging.

If you still plan on actively developing your game more, keep it in closed beta until you are absolutely certain you are near a build that could be considered safe for launch. Otherwise, brace yourselves for the imminent reviewing and judging from the gaming masses.
