You don't know shit about politics except the nationalistic jingoism you read online, which you take at face value. You hide from any criticism by pretending to know the truth; anyone who doesn't agree with you has to "look it up", implying that you've done any research on your own. This gives you the smug notion that you can give unsolicited advice to anyone - in your head, your remark to the Colonel was some enlightening truth about the state of the world.

In reality the state of the world is changing and leaving you behind.
