They're pretty much like playful underwater dogs. Like dogs, they can easily hurt you, be it on accident or intentionally, but they won't actively try to injure people. There was one seal near where I worked, that was notorious for stealing transect tapes, fins, quadrats, pretty much anything of yours he could get his hands (mouth?) on.

UC Santa Cruz has two dolphins at their lab. Both were Navy washouts, at least one of which was from running off to have sex every time other dolphins were nearby.
