I think every kid feels left out of their family at some point because we aren't all the same. Growing up my family didn't have specific toothbrushes. You just grabbed one that was there. Same with towels. By the time I was 7 or 8 this totally horrified me. When I was 12/13 I used to search for adoption papers when my parents were out. Apparently they were very well hidden or I'm not adopted. I got over it eventually. I love them all dearly.

I think we all respond differently. My parents both have dementia that presents very differently.Mom still sounds articulate, knits, reads the paper every day but like your Grandma she has no short term memory. She had a fall on the weekend and bruised her face very badly. For the first few days every time she saw herself in the mirror it horrified her. For me I see enormous humour in her reaction. I'm sure some people would view my reaction as cruel but the attitude of seeing humour in events such as this has kept my sister and I sane while we kept my parents out of a nursing home until last month. (props to my sister and her husband as the parents lived with them. I just gave them a break when possible.)
