Longtime burner here, and actually one who attends without anything harder than PBR in my system. I just wanted to say thank you for the compassionate oversight you and the other EMTs and Black Rock Rangers deliver on playa every year. I’ve transported quite a few injured, dehydrated and loopy burners to y’all’s stations over the years.
You could also mention the generous work of Zendo on playa, who provide dedicated spaces and specialists trained to assist people having problematic drug experiences (notably with psychedelics).
Finally, I mention my own tame indulgence as counterpoint to the sensationalized media portrayal of BM as drug-fueled orgy. You create your own burn, and there are certainly many people who are partying hard and I don’t judge. However in my experience the majority of attendees aren’t hitting it that hard. Perhaps you could speak about your own observations of the spectrum of partying on playa?

Yes, this can work but often the headliner is still intact and sagging, so you can’t get behind it to apply glue. I had limited success in poking a small hole and using a straw to inject some Super77 into the void, but invariably the fabric has sagged to the point where it won’t press back up into the roof without wrinkles.
The good news is that headliner fabric is relatively cheap if you’re not going through a dealership and aren’t concerned about an exact match. Search your local area for “automotive trim shops” and ask them for a quote.

Lance, if one were to try and emulate your wheelchair program in other communities, where are the best places to source donor components? (Thank you for doing what you do. I hope I can channel a little bit of your energy into my area. You're an inspiration)

Please, don’t ever use Comfort Keepers! I personally had a scary, frustrating experience with them and have only heard similar stories from other people.

If you want fines to be deterrents they need to hurt. In some countries they have what are known as “day fines” which essentially scale a fine based on income. Without them, a speeding ticket for a waitress hurts more than for Bill Gates and gives little deterrent value to the later. The same should hold true for environmental, safety and other regulatory fines for companies. Imagine a regulatory scheme where unfixed safety violations result in a loss of all daily revenue from a factory until that violation got fixed.
Also for example…insider trading fines should not only be forfeit of profit and a small fine, but a multiple of the amount of money made (or not lost).
