It isn't painful, but it left unchecked you grow up with a wonky head, and no one wants that. It's like braces for your teeth.

It's pretty common these days, most likely because of the "Back to Sleep" recommendation (to help prevent SIDS you put your child to sleep on their back). Babies lie on that same part of their malleable little skulls for hours and hours, and they end up with a flat spot.

It doesn't do anyone any good to ignore any feelings of discomfort or suspicions something isn't right, either. I'll take chances on a lot of things, but not with my kiddos.
