Why is your nickname Bob and not Rob?

A few rather general questions that can probably be applied to all science institutes. How do you share data among your partners and do you have defined processes when a discovery like this is made? Also how much data must be transferred and how do you make sure it is not faltered with by e.g. 3rd parties or by human error, when you receive data from partners? In this case the latter is probably neglecitable due to the amount of partners involved. Please don't tell me you exchange excel sheets, thanks :)
