Google, undoubtedly. Comcast is made out to be the main competitor, but Comcast doesn't have a bright future ahead of it. Google does, and probably will overtake Verizon in 10-15 years.

You do know that if Verizon doesn't comply, they get hit with lawsuits and investigations from the Feds that will affect stock price, right? That's how the Feds convince all of the corporations...

Tons of upkeep because they're old infrastructure and need repairs. The guys who do said upkeep are all Union workers so there's extra cost there, as well as the fact that nearly 45% of people with landlines don't pay for them. Finally, they're phasing out landlines because they're so archaic that they give the company a bad name and it costs money to remove the landlines.
