What applications does it have outside of the bedroom?

I understand the Baker Act to be a way to commit someone who needs to be commited but is refusing but are also not of sound mind... so in principle it's to help people who aren't looking after their best interests.

So how are they able to commit children without parental consent? Since wouldn't that judgement be the responsibility of the parent? Further if you commit a child under the Baker Act are you actually saying their parent is not of sound mind?

Please correct me where I'm wrong.

You job give you hope for the future exposing these things or does it feel like an unending waterfall of corruption?

Firstly thank you for taking the time to educate me on how this works.

I think that the most common sense change that needs to happen here is you can not action the baker act on a minor, without approval from the parent / gaurdian first... teachers and police can act on a child's immediate needs but they should not have parent / gaurdian status.

It's clear (Times shows the rate of commitments for local students rose 35 percent in just the last five years) that commiting children is quickly becoming the "go to" way of dealing with an uncooperative child.

With no accountability there is no deterrent to sending a child throwing a tantrum to a "mental health facility". It's also quite well known that children must learn to control their emotions as they grow - go to any parenting sub and you can see plenty of parents laughing about their kid breaking down because they won't let them stick a fork in a toaster **as an example**.

Sorry if this turned into a rant but it's a pretty rage inducing subject for me.
