Hi Mr. Mendez,

Born and raised in Arizona, and hold degrees from ASU and UA (go Devils). I was tremendously blessed with the chance to get a very high quality education at an affordable cost to me and my family. However, beginning while I was in college and then law school and especially since, the cost of attending both of our major universities has skyrocketed. As a man now thinking about planning for my kids' future education, I'm genuinely worried they won't have the same opportunities I did, or at the very least those opportunities will come at a steep price in student loans.

Are these inflated prices just the new normal, or is anyone fighting to reverse this trend?

You could do that 30-40 times and at most see the inside of a cell on overnight remand.

Alternatively, he could just not do that.

This seems a little counterproductive.

If you have a paid lawyer, you're going to have a better outcome with your case, point blank period.

Prosecutor here.

It's not that simple. If you have a paid specialist in criminal defense, then yeah, you may generally get better results than a public defender. A case like this, however is super simple and the offers we make are pretty standardized. Many, perhaps even most private defense counsel paid for by defendants are men and women who work in small firms or hang their own shingle and do a little bit of everything. They'll do wills and trusts, a little personal injury, some bankruptcy, DUI, and whatever else pays the bills. Public defenders are significantly more knowledgeable about the criminal law, and while you'll get more time with a small time private attorney, he's going to be comparatively ineffectual at trial.

Public defenders aren't able to answer your questions and walk you through an understanding of the situation from a legal perspective, but most give you fair legal representation. Here, a burglary with a historical prior is a pretty easy, open-and-shut case.
