having read most of your comments, i appreciate why you are doing it like this, but it seems to me you are expecting her to understand something that you've never explained to her and never will be able to.

happiness or not should be her choice, not yours. She might not see it as a waste, she might want to spend that time with you, but she'll never know your reasons or why you've done this.

she won't think 'oh , he was dying, it must be X' , she might never make that connection between you ending it and passing away, and the only way to be certain that she does is for you to explain it to her.

I'm not saying you should get back with her, I'm saying that she has a right to not be lied to for the sake of making yourself feel better.
