I'm very late, but I just found this link.

What would be the point of getting diagnosed in your 40s or 60s or later?

One of my uncles has recently been diagnosed at 62. We are fairly sure that several others of us are on the spectrum. My mother keeps encouraging me to get 'tested'.

I'm honestly not sure that I see a point in it? I'm pretty comfortable with who I am, even if I'm not like other folks. I don't care why I'm different any more, I just accept that I am. I have friends, I have a career that I love working with animals, even if it'll never make me rich.

What would the benefits be of having an actual diagnosis? Is it just self-knowledge? What am I missing?
