Aren't conductors mostly needed when preparing the piece? They're always at the performance because they have led the orchestra (of course they are needed as you said in the more difficult performances).

Thank you for your reply! I myself compose and produce music. When I'm nearly done with a piece or track, I also have a mental list of what needs to be fixed. In some way, conducting could be compared to producing, because we both lead an orchestra, only mine is digital (much less cool of course) ;)

Thank you for your response! I'm wondering: is it really important to go with the things that are "happening"? Isn't it more interesting for potential clients to see someone doing their own thing?
