I know this is going back a ways, but Lonesome Dove was (and still is) one of my all-time favorite movies. I used to make it a point to watch it at least once all the way through, including the sequel, every summer. Do you have any particularly memorable behind the scenes anecdotes that you can share about the making of that film?

No way! That was such a sad scene, in both the book and the movie. Poor guy got killed off right at the beginning of the trip!

Thank you for taking the time to share these memories! I think Robert Duvall was really the perfect choice to play Gus, and it sounds like he embodied his spirit off camera as well!

edit to say: Yikes about the snake! I'd have been on the next plane home. I always watch the scene with the water moccasins with my hands over my eyes.
