I was about to type out a reply asking for a link, but I decided to be the change I want to see and sought it out myself. Here you go fellow lazies

Now, as you can imagine, it's quit a mindfuck to be a black actor working for a white director and taking directions on how to be whipped. I mean, anyone with a modicum of sensitivity would probably want to address this. That's why when Steven Spielberg made Amistad, he had strict rules about how the black actors portraying slaves were to be treated. And one of those rules was that black actors could only be shackled by black personnel.

Well, Edward Zwick wasn't sweating that on the set of Glory because he had a great idea for how to get a performance out of Denzel Washington. What if he told the guy off camera to just keep whipping Denzel? Like more than Denzel expected? Great! Zwick had the camera loaded with extra film and instructed that Denzel should keep getting flogged until he "found it."

Since I don't know if Edward Zwick is a jerk or a nice guy, I'm not sure how I feel about the way this was written. I would be interested in hearing Denzel's perspective on if it is true that the amount/intensity of the whipping was more than he expected.

Edward Zwick claimed that for the flogging scene Denzel Washington was lashed at full contact with a special whip that would not cut his back, but still stung. For the final take of the scene Zwick hesitated calling "Cut!" to signal the flogging to stop, and the result was Washington's spontaneous tear down his cheek.

”I remember walking around before that scene, just praying and calling on the spirits of all the slaves, because I didn’t know how to play it. I was like, ‘Okay, fellas, just tell me what to do.’ And I went out there with an arrogance. I spit on the ground. I had this attitude and this strength — it all came out of this meditation. It wasn’t calculated. It was organic. That whip actually hurt, but I was like, Don’t let him win.”

Which came first for you, POTS or gastroparesis? Can you/is it recommended you sodium load via your feeding tube?

I have EDS-3, POTS, and mild gastroparesis too. My gastroparesis is so far from yours in terms of severity, I sort of think it shouldn't be allowed to be called the same thing.
