Nearly 3 million? That's a gross underestimation. The official figure is ten million Ukrainians murdered in the Holodomor.

The real reason for this is because people want to feel like they're "civilized" and "humane" but the reality of it is that inert gas asphyxiation and lethal injection are every bit as violent as a decapitation or firing squad.

Some counterpoints:

• The Dunning-Kruger Effect applies specifically to competence. It hasn't been demonstrated (to my knowledge) to be applicable to intelligence, partly because measuring intelligence is unreliable.

• The existence of the Dunning-Kruger effect has been debated- it may not exist at all (the paper I linked argues that the tests used to demonstrate the effect's existence are unreliable).

• Those who are competent/intelligent are able to more accurately reckon their own intelligence, because that's what comes with competence: the ability to recognize your own ability. All the Dunning-Kruger Effect states is that the incompetent tend to overestimate their ability more than those who are competent.
