Discussions surrounding basic income in Western contexts are usually framed and critiqued around the notion of deserving and undeserving recipients.

This seems false to me. I've never seen this critique of basic income. The critiques I've seen revolve around the effects that Basic Income would have on inflation.

That assumption requires universal collusion amongst firms.

Why would you say that. When government made easy money college loans, there wasn't universal collusion amongst schools. They all just independently started raising their prices to soak up all that extra money.

Exactly. Once everyone has a basic income, it's a simple matter for businesses to raise their prices to suck up that "extra" money in the market place. Then we're back at square one over night.

I am a comcast customer for like 14 years. I used to pay $65 a month for internet. Then I did something stupid and bundled Comcast's awful phone service (sorry, it's really bad). My bill went up to like $85. Then when I cancelled the phone service, my bill didn't go down at all. I'm paying $85 bucks for Internet alone. I called in and a tech told me that he could get the bill down to a promotional $69 if I bundle television. Hell no. I will not put cable into my house, I'm done with it. I've got local HD and Internet. I don't want all the garbage channels. I'd gladly pay $X a month for specific channels, but that's another issue.

My question - is there any way that I can get my bill back down to the $65 a month range where it was before going on this odyssey with Comcast?

The answer is "because it's actually the best system available, despite its clear flaws."
