Have you read Stephen Fry's piece on fame? Some really fascinating insight there. What would be your ideal fan interaction, the best way to keep both of the participants happy and able to go about their day? Here's Stephen's:
You: Hello there. Nice to see you round these parts.
Me: How very kind of you. Thanks very much.
You: What brings you to Doncaster?
Me: Oh you know, where else would I want to be on a Wednesday?
You: (chuckling) The countryside around is attractive though.
Me: Yes, lovely. Hope to see more of it.
You: Right, well. Keep up the good work.
Me: Thanks. (exit)

I believe Rob is referring to hitting your marks, so that when entering a scene you land where they plan to pull focus on you and where they have set up the lighting. This occurs in front of the lens, yes.

Hey Tony! You let me visit your shop on a Saturday last year as a curious college student who's always admired your work and wanted to see swords being made. I wanted to thank you again for letting me hang around all afternoon and for answering my questions. It really meant a lot to me. It's great that so many more people are able to have that same experience through your webseries, it's been really wonderful to see. I was wondering, what's your favorite material to work with, and why? (steel, aluminum, bronze, whatever.) Thanks again!

As a guy who was a background Pawnee resident for a couple of seasons of Parks, thanks! You guys were the nicest set I've ever seen.
