MT here, "knots" are simply muscle adhesions. These can be worked out through massage techniques. I have never heard of anyone requiring surgery for a muscle adhesion. So good news!

Hello! I'm also a massage therapist and I am active in yoga and pilates. I strongly feel that massage can help even those who are active. It may be more of a sports massage, but just because we stay active and are fit does not mean that our body tissues to need some extra help.

I'm a massage therapist, we get a lot of practice feeling tissue through school and our work. Its actually quite easy after a while to feel an area that needs a little work. Some massage therapists have "heavier" hands. Which basically means they lean into the massage more. Some some work may have felt deeper. Ultimately, its up to the client to decide the amount of pressure to use, and we are happy to oblige. I'm glad to hear that a variety of techniques were used as well! There are lots of different ways to make a positive change to tissue.

I commonly get trigger points in my neck and hip. I am able to release these on my own.
