Have you tried any of the functional programming languages? There are a lot of experienced programmers who say that languages with a Hindley-Milner type system have revitalized their love of programming (and languages).

What do you think about teaching coding from a theoretical perspective such as Haskell or Lisp that may not be particularly well suited to the job market, but might develop skills that benefit the student as a software developer?
