I am a social worker and have workers with many clients who have undergone ECT treatments. Few have had positive results and most have said that it was the worst experience of their life, which left them with permanent memory lose. Ask the patients not the person who does the procedure.

What happens to the food that is not sold that day, like donuts? Do they donate anything to the poor?

I just want to clarify that I have been working as a Social Worker for the Canadian Ministry of Health for 10 years. My title is Mental Health Case Manager. I work directly with patients of local hospitals both inpatient and out. I also work with their doctors and family members. I understand that our points of view on this subject may be different. Mostly because I see people while they are attending treatment as well as long term ( up to five years) during their recovery journey. Yes some folks see benefits from ECT treatments. But to say its short sighted, to express their experiences have shown long term memory loss is not fair. Patients who have had negative experiences, want nothing to do with the doctor who suggested the treatment. Their experiences are often not documented. Expect to their support providers. To say that we should look simply to research which is conducted voluntarily by patients who have stayed in contact with the teams in the hospital is also not a clear picture of the full scope of possible outcomes. We can agree to disagree.
