TBH that sounds pretty similar to civilian life as a trans person, as far as other's curiosity goes. Most people are well-meaning, and it's clear when they ask questions that it's just something they aren't familiar with, but want to learn more. It can get a bit tiresome being an impromptu ambassador, but it sounds like you have handled this with grace and as great an attitude as you can have under constantly changing circumstances.
