Yep, cried over similar comments from the foster children we've had in our family. The first girl kept waiting for us to take away her Christmas gifts, even before Christmas. She checked under the tree everyday to see if they were still there. Broke my heart. Yesterday, a worker from our agency took our current foster daughter to the mall to hang out. Foster daughter was confused since it was a holiday, couldn't wrap her brain around someone wanting to hang out with her just because and not because it's their job. I am thankful though, of these small reminders that we still have work to do, to help her feel worthy. I don't want to slack on that job.

Foster mom to teen girls here. The reality is that all kids in foster care have suffered trauma. Even babies. So, the age doesn't matter. There are difficulties with any age, foster kid or not. There are also many positives. So I say go for it!

My cousin adopted two teens who were students of his at the state school for the deaf. They were wards of the state and he wanted them to have a family, somewhere to go for Xmas etc.
