Do the Detroit idea. Or if you can't, build a mockup of a town and destroy it.

No giant robot battle is ever truly complete without a city being destroyed in the process.

I think people are more interested in characters who have a darker side.

If Star Trek ever does come back (which I have little doubt in, it will probably be on Amazon Prime in the next few years), it will probably try to blend some optimistic, moral characters with more immoral ones, and try to mix exploration with story arcs and keeping it fresh. Some stories have bright endings, others dark endings. Starfleet isn't perfect, but compared to the alternative, they're saints.

One thing's for sure: trekkies are hungry for a new show after how terribly Enterprise ended 10 years ago.

You seem to notice this out of a lot of old war veterans.

Back a hundred years ago (literally), they had the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and they had surviving veterans of the battle come there. Back when these guys were fighting the battle, they were hostile, and were willing to bludgeon their enemy to death if it meant they would win the battle.

When these guys were in their 60s-70s, they no longer had any hatred towards each other, and when they recreated one of the charges, they charged towards each other and hugged the people on the other sides, like they were friends.

To me, it is one of the most wonderful aspects of humanity that despite enduring horrifying times and seeing and doing things no other living being should ever have to subject themselves to, they can still forgive each other and become friends near the end.

Son, you're going up against people who have been watching mecha since the 70s and have been itching for a chance to build real combat robots for decades. That response they put up made it sound like they've been patiently waiting for a competitor to challenge them.

Challenging Japan to a Giant Robot Duel is like smashing a Hornet's Nest with a baseball bat. Now that the Hornets are stirred up, there will be stinging involved, and a lot of it.

All we have to see now are if your chainsaws and flamethrowers will be enough to beat the inevitable giant ninja weapons they will use against you. Good luck, you will need it.
