Any carpet cleaning tips?

Step 1: Remove all carpeting.

Step 2: Install hardwood floors.

Seriously, carpet is gross. The only way anyone can tolerate living with it is if they don't spend too much time thinking about how much filth and biota it's impregnated with.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. It's as if there's the push to stop regarding it as what it is: an incurable disease that will actually kill you if you don't manage it with scarce, expensive drugs for the rest of your life.

At some point, pointing out indisputable fact (such as that CDC data) somehow became analogous to hate speech. The people who make that association are every bit as willfully ignorant and close minded as a bible beating, young-Earth, fundamentalist christian.
