It would be difficult for someone to benefit from stolen valor in a financial sense. They wouldn't be able to get education benefits without a record of being in the military.
Sometimes you see these morons get called out like how Don Shipley does on youtube, guys pretending to be SEALs and shit, running dojos or whatever. I guess in a sense they are benefitting from stolen valor but once found out they're probably ruined.
Generation Kill is the shit, and is fairly representative of how marines think and interact with each other, and just as importantly, with civilians who are mixed in with our enemy. I saw Black Hawk Down years ago and don't really remember much about it. Haven't seen the other 2, although I did read Lone Survivor. It was a good read.
