Hey Caitlin! Thanks for the AMA, it's great to see you here. I'm a fan of your "webisodes" (is that the word..?) on Youtube, and I am also a big fan of death-y things (rituals, biology, etc.). A friend of mine used to make fun of me cause he was studying to be a doctor and I was (am) a musician, but I knew the process of decomposition better than he did, lol.

I was born and raised in Italy, where I lived till I was 29, after which I moved to the US; the biggest difference i noticed between our rituals and the American ones is that we don't really embalm bodies, in fact we barely put some make-up on them, so much so that open-casket funerals often end up looking like a scene out of a horror movie, with the deceased looking.... well, VERY deceased. Some of the ones I saw (the older ones generally) still had a scarf around their head to keep the jaws shut (yikes).

In America it's very different, and I know that also 'cause I worked for a cement/steel vault company for about a year, and since we had to install the vaults, place the caskets in them and then put the big scary lid on them, I found myself at a funeral basically every other day.

So yeah, why do you think Americans are so fixated with the "looks" of things, while other countries do just a little more than planting people naked under a turnip crop?

Right, people would have just called him an "autistic neckbeard" and that would have been the full extent of that.

Yep. And it's just as disgusting as it looks. Oh look, she has deleted the body of the AMA... is it 'cause the obvious bullshit triggered her SIM (Selective Internet Mutism)?... Come the fuck on now
