Would you rather learn your soldier tasks from a combat veteran?

Depends on the combat the veteran was in. Afganistan style police operation against irregulars in the desert has little relevance to fully armored combat in thick arctic woodlands.

US has had troops practicing in Finland last couple years, trained by Afghanistan veterans and the results were apparently less than stellar. The training they receive is not for MBT bash against Russia, which is the only thing that we train for in Finland.

fewer and fewer leaders had experienced the one thing we were all there for: combat

Most Finnish conscripts are there to avoid sudden need to speak Russian and eat cabbage soup. Combat would be inconvenient, since a lot of buddies would end up in the graveyard.

constantly revolving population of soldiers

The drill lieutenants stay for 20-30 years.

Have you been recruited or approached by "gun for hire" type of operations? How would you feel about becoming a soldier of fortune (=Mercenary)?
