Did it worry you that incorporating that into the defense made that one girl feel like she asked for it/deserved it? I'm not making any judgements because I know that's your job, but rape is pretty traumatic and I know from experience that she could have very easily internalized that as "I asked for it. They were raped but I was aroused" etc.

I guess what I'm asking is, it would seem hard to separate your personal feelings from the job in that kind of case so how did you handle it?

Would you say that has more to do with the location of your facility (in an urban area with higher AA and Hispanic populations)?

Very interesting. What about these groups do you think makes them more at risk? Less access to help before things spin out of control, perhaps?

My boyfriend is an EMT who worked in a rural area, and that seemed to be the case with many patients; not enough money to get help, no desire to seek it, so they ignored the problem til it found them in an emergency situation.

My SO has been an EMT-A for like 5 years while doing pre-med. There are more career people out there for sure, but also plenty who transition into nursing (BSN and MSN) or M.D. as I can think of three in our friend group doing just that. It's good money for school and a lot of clinical experience. His EMT program was 1 year, accelerated.

He's also working Xmas Eve and Day and works most holidays. It doesn't bother me since my parents are nurses who only now have enough seniority to consistently have holidays off.
