Two of the biggest criticisms of nuclear are the length of time it takes to complete a fission reactor (Hinckley Point C, Flammanville, and others) and the costs of these projects, especially ignored/forgotten costs associated with decommissioning. How does the industry address these issues to build confidence in project timelines, project costs, and competitive cost of energy for the future?

Thanks for the response! It is a challenging question and one which might have many answers. As an analyst and engineer in the renewable sector in Europe, I find it somewhat disheartening how nuclear is viewed, where countries like Germany are decommissioning nuclear before coal.

I don’t understand why the Renewable sector to date has distanced itself from nuclear where I believe that there is a high level of complinetarity in a future electrified energy system incorporating high levels of renewables with supporting levels of nuclear
