I've seen various artists and creators debate on whether motivation and inspiration or discipline is more important in the creation process; e.g. if you don't have natural motivation your work will be of lower quality vs you can't rely on natural motivation and must schedule yourself to be artistic/create something regardless of whether you feel like it.

Do you fall on either side of this argument with your workflow or do you consider it a false dichotomy?

Hi Don, thank you for having us.

When I first heard of "It's Such a Beautiful Day," my friends and I were just familiar with your shorts on youtube, and just heard our local college-indie-type theatre was going to show it. I don't know what all of us were expecting, but it wasn't what it turned out to be. Afterwards the entire theatre audience walked out silently while awkwardly looking at their shoes. It was quite an experience. For a friend of mine it was the catalyst to an existential crisis. I've ended up (buying it and) watching it every few months as sort of a, I don't know, reality check I guess. Anyway, that's what I consider the turning point from oh-yeah-I-guess-I-know-that-guy to I'm-going-to-stalk-everything-he-does.

So I guess my main question is this: Was It's Such A Beautiful Day intended as a sort of turning point in narrative style, or had things started happening earlier that I wasn't paying close enough attention to? (EDIT: I was thinking of "the turning point" as the shift to a more existential flavor of surrealism, but that may just be my interpretation. Maybe a better, more open, question would be what have your various turning points or shifts been?)

Also, have you already started dressing in kelp in preparation for tomorrow?

P.S. Really enjoyed the The End of the World cameo in World of Tomorrow.

What is it like going between characters? e.g. If there were a conversation between Louise and Mabel, would you converse the whole thing yourself or record one's side then the other's? (What would that conversation even be?) Are there any voices that you need some recovery time afterwards?
