As you launch the game, an insight roll of, like, nine will tell you that you need not jailbreak your account to swipe as many damn times as you have hours in the day.

We set out to capture a certain feeling that the experience of D&D creates. I mean, it's not gonna BE D&D, because it can't be an infinitely procedural play experience (plus, its single player). What it does have is a certain kind of tropes, jokes, and situations that will FEEL like the D&D experience. You know, seducing the queen of rats, pulling out a barrel of pickles you've been carrying for half a year to save a gnoll from cultists, that stuff.
It's boiled down to a minimum set of experiencial parts to make the most engaging procedural adventuring out of the least stuff.

Think of it like this, you can start as a Human farmer, halfway through, you marry an elvish lady (unlocking elves as a playable race), then you buy an old instrument and get taught how to play it from a god of trickery disguised as a hobo (Unlocking Bard). Then you die to a swarm of scorpions in the mountains.

On your next run, you can start as an Elvish Bard. As you explore around, you'll find new interactions and scenarios you get for being an elf, and also the interactions from having become a bard in the last run. The opportunities are limitless, but large chunks of game only become accessible to characters with certain races or backgrounds.

Most fundamentally, the core of the game is, literally, about killing monsters to gain power and treasure. There are other ways to get power, and other ways to get treasure, just like any fantasy tabletop RPG.

Now, it might just be my DMing style, but I feel like the D&D carries an odd mix of sincere moments and pure chaos (usually from to the players). And, personally, I think that's the golden recipe that's made it so popular again. That's what I've worked to emulate in the writing for the game (with help from some of my players), and I think we've arrived at something people are gonna love.

All good points, personally I've always been partial to 3.5E (and, by extention, pathfinder). Though I do love some of the streamlining in 5E.
