Bonus question: Why did you pick the symbols that stayed? Why hexagon dots, suns, Upside-Down Ys?

What is the most interesting, surprising thing you learned when making The Witness? I would imagine to learn quite a lot about how people come to understand different concepts, how knowledge is build up etc. But maybe there was something unexpected.
