I’ve been curious about becoming a surrogate, but in Canada you can’t charge money to be a surrogate, you’re only reimbursed for actual expenses, which is basically nothing because we have universal health care. Would you have still become a surrogate for strangers in that situation?

That’s how I feel, there’s a lot of sacrificing of your wellbeing in a way that isn’t directly costing out of pocket money. Feeling so tired and nauseous at the start and then there’s daily aches and pains and reduced mobility/comfort for a lot. Some people experience severe heartburn or sciatica. I would want some compensation other than feeling good about myself at the end to go through it all. If anyone has done surrogacy without being paid, please feel free to express why it was worth it to you. I think I would feel a little differently if I was doing it for a good friend or family though.
