Man, I was literally just about to respond to him when I saw your post. What I was essentially going to say was "The restaurant I work at has a NA store right beside it, and occasionally they do fry bread cooking. It is a nice treat when I'm tired of my own place's food".

I always felt that the idea of frying things in oil seemed a bit... Not traditional? I don't have a better phrase. It is relieving to know that nagging side was correct.
