Perceived skill is (almost) always higher than actual skill. This goes for practically all people in all fields.

That was what I was thinking about. I didn't remember it as accurately as I had hoped. I basically only remembered seeing a graph that looked like this and what I said kinda works as a generalization, not many people are highly competent.

Like he said you can learn it from a tutorial but it's way more satisfying learning it on your own. I firmly believe everyone is capable of doing it as long as you keep at it. It takes about a month or two of messing with it on and off to "get" it.
With that knowledge you can also solve any other cube form without effort because the basic solving ideas are the same. You can even do the 4D cube!

I don't think you can get much faster with the layer method. You really need to learn other methods if you want to get faster than 30 seconds. I didn't learn to speed cube for the same reason though. Other methods are hard to pick up on and it probably takes a while to get used to them etc.
