I'd argue that Hannibal Lecter had a different idea about this that is more compelling.

Funny story about "trail magic". In 2007, when I was at a lodge in New Hampshire I met two thru hikers who told my group about trail magic. One time they found a credit card on the trail and called it "trail magic". They took it to a local store in Virginia to pay for food, and got caught and arrested. They were due to go back there to meet a court date for credit fraud.
