We definitely should be afraid of this. Stephen Harper's anti-muslim comments during the Canadian federal election had a direct result of increased hate crimes and violence against Muslim women. No person that incites violence against a minority should be allowed to run for public office.

This is true Dr. Rana but you are an educated, sophisticated and emotionally strong man. You were able to handle the situation far better than the average person. What if next time this happens to my mom? I would be absolutely outraged. If we don't believe profiling of black youth is necessary why is it necessary for Muslims? Are us Muslims giving a free pass to authorities by just being patient and accepting something that is so blatantly racist and against the fundamentals of a liberal democracy?

True, and his conduct was admirable but it doesn't make the public humiliation of an innocent man ok.. And change is not brought about by being complacent. I'm torn on the question myself and wanted to know Dr. Rana's views. They could have discreetly tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to follow them and then question him as opposed to treating him like a criminal and publicly humiliating him. I beleive the woman that reported him should face consequences just like anyone else who pulls a false fire alarm would face. It is not okay to look around and say I don't like the way that guy is dressed therefore I need to let the airline know I think I'm sitting next to a terrorist. That is not okay. I'm wondering if the general idea of being understanding when you are a victim of racial profiling is only exacerbating the issue.

Serious question: how can people not be afraid in this climate of sensationalized media and everyone being terrorized into fearing Muslims?
