He had some amazing stories- and surprisingly had no ill will toward the Japanese.

Also a pilot:

  1. No, there is no danger. It's simply a sweeping ban. You can certainly interfere with communications though if you had a handheld radio. Cellphones do not interfere at all, but they don't work well at altitude (surprisingly) because you're hopping between cell towers too frequently.

  2. Yes, lightning can cause problems with the engines and electronics. Your bigger concern is why your are flying through a lightning storm? Turbulence and wind shear are going to piss off your passengers something fierce.

  3. Not an airline pilot, no real input on this.
