I love functional programming-- but I'm still not sure what's so neat about the Y-Combinator. It's a functor that produces a recursive function from one that is passed as an argument?

Oh, that makes a lot more sense. Hence the insistence on an anonymous function definition?

I'm a CS student (math minor) just finishing up my Bachelor's, and I'll be 25 by the time I've graduated-- there have been some stumbling blocks. I'm interested in (Graphics) research, but I feel like I'm missing out on valuable work experience. It seems like working in the financial sector would be rewarding for the mathematical challenge (as well as the pay) but I'm getting the impression that it's very easy to miss the window should I decide to pursue a Master's.
