I've read articles that talk about the autism spectrum... Saying most people are on it to some extent. It really seems like you guys have your heads up your asses and are searching for reasons to get more school and government funding because to my knowledge, there is no cure and will never be a cure for genetic disorders unless you deal with the DNA itself. I understand some people clearly have autism but if it's a spectrum type situation how can you clearly define it as autism when maybe it's something you don't even know about? Are there blood tests/ dna tests you can do to prove someone has autism or is it just one persons professional opinion against another. Not trying to put a cramp in your lifestyle but unless you are actually modifying DNA (which can't be done in humans on a (dr./ patient level) I see no point in your research and if you can't test different situations on animals as you can with disease or other disorders, how will you make progress? Seems like the best approach would be to dedicate money towards those who are impacted by their disability instead of researching bs causes/ ways to prevent it because it is my understanding that this isn't a new development and has just gone unrecognized. Is this situation one that is truly getting worse and is preventable? I have seen no medication or even attempts at creating a medication but I have read about environmental factors to ease the impact. I understand where money would come in handy with caring for people with the disorder... But there are limits. It seems to me like you're trying to play god on a playing field where a god already exists and there's a government preventing you from even getting close being able to find a resolve for the issue you're spending millions/billions of dollars researching involving genetic mutations. Seems more like evolution and while it's a sad reality, I'm fairly certain only genetic changes can make this happen. I doubt they'll ever let you touch people's DNA if they can be labelled as being on a spectrum with no definite or incremental scale... Seems like blanket term for a wide range of cognitive disabilities. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I just find Autism to be a blanket diagnosis and I think genetic research has it's limits and will continue to remain that way until medical procedures catch up with what you're doing. It's kind of like researching aliens. Forms of life exist out there but you don't know exactly what they are and there would be a million barriers getting in your way even if you wanted to... And guess what... NASA is not a heavily funded program any longer for valid reason. They attempted to do something that was very expensive and had serious limitations and money needed to be diverted elsewhere. Just seems like in a time where Cancer and other deadly issues would clearly be treatable/ curable you are spending money and diverting it from what's really pressing. Sorry in advance for what i'm sure you will establish as my ignorance on the subject.
