Wait so your boyfriend is a misogynist who just sits in his basement masturbating and getting in internet fights all day?

Or if you give them your phone specifically for them to call 911 while you are performing first aid.

Free First Aid Tip: If you are in an emergency situation designate one single person to call 911, give them your phone if need be. This is better than simply shouting "someone call 911", because you can ensure that only one call will be made, and that a call will be made. If you don't delegate the job to a specific person, there is a chance that no one will call, because they assume someone else will. You also prevent miscommunication where two people report the same accident. If two or more people report the same accident Emergency Services can't be sure how many personal to send. For example if someone is choking, and 3 people call it in to 911, the operators won't know if there is only one person choking, or 3 people choking. So they will send help assuming there are 3 (to be safe) the problem is that this would be tying up those EMTs, so that they can't respond to other emergencies.

Sorry I got carried away, but this shit is important.

Edit: as another said, it is especially important to try and make sure you only have one call in more rural areas where there may only be one 911 operator.

Many good points, I would also like to add that in smaller communities there is often only one dispatcher(I work often alone in a community of just over 20,000 people). So if three people call, you answer the first call, take basic info, take second call, take basic info/determine same incident, take third call, take basic info/verify same incident and then are finally able to dispatch. Help wasn't enroute for another minute or so because you had multiple people call, which can be critical in a choking incident.

Edit 2: Formatting.

Edit 3: As several others have said, all of this advise also carries over to asking someone to get an AED.

How many times are you going to do an AMA about this? I feel like I see it everyweek.
