Never heard of a term but something I've learned over the years is just because someone asks a question doesn't mean you have to share intimate details of your life. You can always say, "we've had some challenges and don't have children at this time". If they persist then just say "maybe another time" or "this isn't the right time to discuss it" or just lie, it's not their business. If that doesn't send the message then it's about them.

I don't have children but I've been through some traumatic things in my life. As I've healed and made peace with the past, the less inclined I am to relive painful events. I think we all have a responsibility to leave the past behind the best we can and be present for the people in our lives. Guilt and shame are always trying to enter my brain and this sense of higher purpose helps me put things away in the past in a way that I can live with.

When I get lost in the past, I listen to this short talk by Sam Harris: https://youtu.be/srxDtefn740

Good luck on your journey!

Well...I do maintenance for a living and tryanotherusername13 is correct, provided it isn't a large fire, recovering from a short isn't too bad. Usually it is just labor intensive, the wires are still in place but the insulation is melted off, perhaps the wires at the junction of the short are severed so a little bit of investigation might be necessary. My experience with boats similar to this one is the wiring is custom so larger gauge than a prefabricated harness and the layout is usually a bit chaotic which is good. I have NEVER failed to recover the wiring of a DC voltage short that burned, it may have not been the prettiest job but it isn't impossible. The difficult ones are the intermittent breaks that do not smoke....

Yep, pepper spray will do the trick. This kind of nonsense is unacceptable, fuck this guy.

I think you get hired and work for an experienced investigator under their license. The $120 that the client pays and what the dude sitting in the car makes are two different things. A friend of mine works as an investigator for the newly opened public defenders office in Houston, he makes 70K which is pretty sweet. Unfortunately he has to go and talk to seedy witnesses or people who might also be suspects, these people sometimes threaten to kill him. He is a big, intimidating black dude who does martial arts stuff but I fear somebody might shoot him one day.

You are so very welcome!

I work in factory, a large percentage of the production employees are African immigrants, really nice people. The kind of things many of these people have endured is quite terrible and they generally don't speak about them. The problem about being in a bad situation is generally nobody has clean hands, even being a bystander to atrocities comes with survivors guilt. All that can be done is to pick up the pieces of what's left and keep moving. I try to use these refugees as inspiration for perseverance and gratitude that my challenges could be much worse.

Take care, Jim
