15+yr loyal Verizon family plan customer here. They would not waive $30 upgrade fee when I signed new contract this last time. (I dont even own a smartphone). I talked to 1 guy in person, 3 peeps on the phone, including manager. I got no movement on my POLITE begging. They clearly do not value customer loyalty.
