Good on you. I adapted an old, stone house with another bricked floor. Liberally applied insulation for the roof and a small central heating oven is enough to heat water and keep us warm.

We own a few acres of forest, so there's plenty of fuel.

We have 3 years left to cut down more than 403 of trees, but we only use around 8 per year, so in the end we will have to sell firewood. Usual rate here is around 54€/m3, so we benefit from a well built and insulated house.

We also run infloor heating from the central heating, which also cools in summer.

Because you use less energy if you have a constant temperatur, rather than heating/cooling in intervals.

You can try it with your hot water tank if you have one suitable. You surely have it set to constant temperature and you surely don't turn if off everyday after usage, because you do not need it.

It's going full blast to reach needed temperature, every time you turn it on. When it's on constant temperature, it only needs short bursts to keep it on the level.
