At the hospitals in the city I work, typically these items are taken by hospital security and locked in the security safe and then released to the pt upon discharge or transfer. Any items that could cause harm are noted so that EMS personnel are aware during transport

How do you view paramedics?

As an EMT I can confirm this. In fact, just had the pleasure of seeing the same "pt" 5 times in the last 24 hours. Notice the quotes as there really is nothing wrong with this man.
