Exactly. Having worked in the mental health field for 23 years, I know of two patients directly who have had ECT, and it was a last resort measure. It saved their lives (from suicide).

If it is a trans man, yes, there well could be a vagina involved. And the term is trans man or trans woman.

Damn.. there it is again - this idea that Medicare and Social Security are an entitlement. Here I am, the fool, PAYING INTO THOSE PROGRAMS SINCE I WAS FOURTEEN. Wonder who I write to in order to get my money back?

I've worked in mental health for 23 years. 17 were in an acute inpatient crisis hospital. I knew of a patient who was actively trying to kill herself for about 10 years. Everything was tried - behavioral therapy, CBT/DBT, every medication under the sun, more inpatient admissions and residential treatment stays than I can count. She was hospitalized several times for nearly successful suicide attempts. ECT was the measure of last resort... and it worked. It helped her, when nothing else did.

The second one I know if it helping is a friend. Suicidal and homicidal. Years of unsuccessful treatment until ECT - he's back to his old self, happy, stable, thriving.

Friend needs to fly cheap (she's on a shoestring budget) to NOLA during Mardi Gras. Any advice/suggestions?

Edit: She's flying 2/5-7 from PHL to NOLA.
