I believe the question is about attraction, not labels.

Justin, first off wanted to say thank you for an incredible set of books. Your writing has really expanded my view of how fantasy can be written. You blend horror and suspense and love and everything else seamlessly.

I'm a little over halfway through the third book right now, but I've had a question that I've always wanted to know. If Fanning is so strong and powerful, does that mean every other pre-Fanning expedition viral that was in the South American jungle was as strong and as powerful as Fanning is? Could they also exercise mind control?

Eh, I love the series, but it isn't comparable to GoT in terms of adaptability, and I think it could be adapted into movie form pretty well. Not every great book needs the GoT treatment. There's a few relatively central plots that would be simple enough to carry the movie. Take LotR for example, similar in my mind in terms of different POV'S needing to be expressed.

But Jonas didn't tinker with Fanning's virus, by the time he came into contact with Fanning, Fanning was already infected with the natural version. I'm thinking the "original" carriers of the virus in the forest were probably content to hunt forest prey and were likely primitive homo sapiens who didn't know there was such a thing as civilization that they could wreck. As we know, time means nothing to these creatures, so they could very well be thousands of years old.

It could, but from a profit standpoint, if they make it a blockbuster movie they'll likely make a lot more money. It's not like it has the winding, meandering narrative that GoT has. Think of it like LotR or Hunger Games (though his books are far more complex than Hunger Games) or World War Z.

They'll likely strip it down to the core narratives: 1st movie - Colorado base, Amy, then into the future, where we meet Peter, reintroduce Amy, etc.

The one part I'm interested to see transitioned into film is the Fanning background. Is it even going to be part of the material or will they just give you segments or what?
